NEWS AND NOTES

-The most recent bracket projections are posted below this article. Check those out, along with the analysis, if you haven’t already.

-Ohio State ended a two game losing streak with a 47-39 win against Coppin State on Monday, but that is hardly reassuring. Coppin State has just one div1 win, and they hung with Ohio State for much of the game.

-Southern Illinois ended a three game losing streak in a big way with a 71-56 win over Saint Mary’s, who came into the game undefeated and nationally ranked. The Salukis out-rebounded Saint Mary’s 39-24 in what was an impressive defensive showing. It’s easily the biggest win of the year for the Salukis.

-Bradley struggled on the road against Wright State and trailed for most of the second half, but came back to force overtime and ended up winning 72-65. It isn’t a monster win for the Braves by any means, but it is still a tough win against a fairly good team on the road and is the kind of game at-large caliber teams would be expected to win.

HIGHLIGHTED MATCH-UPS

-MASSACHUSETTS AT BOSTON COLLEGE. This is a fairly big rivalry within the state of Massachusetts, and it should be a fun game to watch. UMass is off to a great start and already has an impressive road win against Syracuse. Boston College is coming off a big road win against Maryland, and with only one loss on the year has quite a bit of momentum right now. UMass hasn’t been nearly as consistent, and actually followed up their win against Syracuse with a loss to IUPUI. They’re young and it’s hard to tell which team is going to show up, but I think they’ll be on top of their game considering this is a rivalry game.

-VANDERBILT AT DE PAUL. Vandy is unbeaten on the year, and appears to be undermatched in this one despite the fact that they’re on the road. It would be a huge win for De Paul if they could pull it off, but it isn’t likely. Vandy has struggled at times, and this is just their second true road game, so it is possible.

-OHIO AT MARYLAND. Ohio is off to a pretty good start at 6-2, but needs something big to get them some national attention and a win at Maryland would really help them out. Maryland has struggled this season. They’re 6-4, but all those losses have come to pretty good teams and it looks as though the Terps will improve. They need to be on upset alert tonight, though, because Ohio is a team that is looking to make a statement.

-WISCONSIN AT WISCONSIN MILWAUKEE. Wisconsin Milwaukee is just 3-6 on the season and has lost five in a row. They have also struggled With Wisconsin in this series despite the fact that they’ve had some pretty good teams. Wisconsin is 6-2 and is looking to rebound from a tough loss to rival Marquette.

-CINCINNATI AT XAVIER. This is one of the biggest mismatches that this rivalry has seen in quite some time. Cincinnati is 4-4 against a very weak schedule, and has been defeated rather handily in their last two games. Xavier is on fire right now and has been beating everyone by convincing margins. It is a rivalry, and Cincinnati did upset Xavier last year, but it still has all the makings of a blowout.

BUY GAMES

-TEXAS SAN ANTONIO AT ARKANSAS. Arkansas has been getting better and better with every game they play, and shouldn’t have any trouble winning this one tonight.

-LAMAR AT BYU. Lamar hasn’t won a div1 game yet, and BYU is on a roll. They should roll in this one.

-SOUTH DAKOTA STATE AT MINNESOTA. Minnesota has just one loss on the season, and can get to 7-1 tonight. Their wins haven’t been against outstanding teams, they still look to be very much improved from last season.
