NEWS AND NOTES

-I’m going to try my best to do a bracket projection this week, but like a lot of people I’m very busy with the holidays and may not have time.

HIGHLIGHTED MATCH-UPS

-FLORIDA STATE AT GEORGIA TECH (ACC). Florida State is off to a decent start, but needs to perform in conference if they want to make the NCAA Tournament. This is the kind of game that they need to win. It is a road game, but it’s against a Georgia Tech team that doesn’t appear to be an NCAA caliber team. Florida State also has a history of struggling on the road in conference, so winning this one would be a great way to kick things off.

-SAM HOUSTON AT LMU. Sam Houston just suffered their first loss of the season, and it was an overtime heartbreaker to a very good San Diego State team. Sam Houston has a very good team and can get themselves in the discussion for an at-large if they can avoid stubbing their toes down the stretch. LMU is just 3-10 so they should be able to pick up a win in this one.

-VALPARAISO AT NORTH CAROLINA. The Tarheels are playing outstanding basketball. They’ve blown out two quality opponents in their last two home games, but face another challenge today. Valpo has just two losses on the season, the most recent was at Wisconsin in a game where they led most of the second half, but just couldn’t finish them off. Their other loss was a hard fought game at Vanderbilt. Valpo may be in over their heads in this one. It’s a shame they couldn’t wrap up a win in one of those other games because it would have really done wonders for their at-large chances. A win in this one would certainly boost their profile, but because of how good North Carolina is this game doesn’t appear to be all that winnable. I’m not going to say it’s impossible because Valpo is good, but it would take a tremendous effort to knock off a North Carolina team that’s playing as well as anyone right now.

BUY GAMES

-SOUTH CAROLINA UPSTATE AT DUQUESNE. Duquesne can improve to 9-3 with a win and looks to be building some momentum heading into conference play.

-LIBERTY AT GEORGE MASON. This is George Mason’s first game in awhile, and it’s the last before they begin conference play. A win will get them to 9-3.

-PRESBYTARIAN AT GEORGIA. The Bulldogs can improve to 7-3 against div1 teams with a win.

-TENNESSEE STATE AT ILLINOIS. Illinois can improve to 9-4 with a win, and enter conference play with a three game win-streak.

-NORTHEASTERN AT SYRACUSE. Syracuse has won three straight, and this will most likely be their fourth. It’s also their last game before they begin conference play, so their competition will become much more challenging.

-HARTFORD AT VIRGINIA. Virginia has played very well this season and can get to 10-2 with a win in this one.
