Chatman left Dynamo Moscow on October 19th after a falling out with head coach Dusan Ivkovic. Since he received a substantial portion of his contract up-front before the season started, reportedly over a half a million dollars, Chatman has since been at the mercy of his former club who wanted him to return at least a part of the sum. According to reports, Moscow slapped a $150,000 price tag on his buyout and subsequential release from the team, which scared off most of the suitors he had when taking into consideration the steep contract demands of the player himself. Chatman reportedly had interest from big-budget European teams such as Maccabi Tel Aviv, Hapoel Jerusalem, Eldo Napoli, Unics Kazan and Azovmash, and even some NBA teams.

Due to the Visa restrictions of the Italian league, Chatman likely won’t be eligible to play for Rome for another week or so. Widely considered one of the top point guards playing outside the NBA, Chatman will be expected to lead the talented squad to the Euroleague Final Four. He'll play alongside former Temple star shooting guard David Hawkins, as well as Dejan Bodiroga, who is past his prime but still an extremely effective wing player. Rome also recently signed another Russian exile in Ognjen Askrabic. They completed a very busy signing period by also waiving former NBA first round pick Jerome Moiso today.
